Wae Rebo Tour 2 Days/ 1 Night
We think this one of the best Tours in Flores Indonesia.  The trip will leave in the early morning from Labuan Bajo to start the journey.  It usually takes 5 to 6 hours of driving to get to Denge village, and then a short time after that we will start trekking for around 2-3 hours up to Wae Rebo Village.  This trek is not the easiest trek to do. The elevation raises up to about 1,200 Meters about sea level. It is bit of a strong hike, so if you can not hike for 2-3 hours, this tour is not recommended for you.  Once we arrive at the Village, we will be part of a short welcoming ceremony with the locals.  The locals are very friendly and warm and welcome  you as family.
We will leave Labuan Bajo in the morning and stop at a few places along the way for pictures and coffee or tea if you prefer.  Lunch will be on the way and Dinner will be served at the Village.  We will have breakfast in the morning and time to talk to the locals and soak it all in, before heading back to Labuan Bajo.

Wae Rebo is a small village that is bit off of the beaten path. It is located at about 1,100 meters above sea level and is about a 3 - 4 travel and trek by foot from Denge Village. Wae Rebo is  surrounded by gorgeous  panoramic mountains.  The entire area is rich in vegetation and you can hear many different kinds of birds along the trek.  Visiting this village is truly a unique experience that is highly recommended if you have time on your visit to Flores.

Wae Rebo Village has many unique characterisitcs such as the dome shaped houses, which are called Mbaru Niang.  This style of home was more common years and years ago but during more modern changing times, it is the only villages that has continued to keep it that traditional.   A typical house has five level and uniquely, every level is designed for a certain purpose. If you are starting at the top, the fifth (top level) is to place offering to the ancestors of the family and villages.  The forth level is for storing different food stock in case there may be a drought, the third level is for storing seeds for the next year harvest.  The second level from the bottom is used for storing goods and foods.  The bottom and first level is the living quarters for the entire family. This is also year tourists get to sleep among the locals.   There is also a special house at the back of the yard this is a ceremonial house and a community building.  This is where the people the village join together fro rituals and ceremonies.   When you come to the village for the first time, this is where they head of the village will perform a short welcoming ceremony to welcome you into the village.

The Village has 7 houses that are in a half circle shaped around the middle area.  The villagers eat a lot of cassava, maize, and rice.  They grow vanilla, cinnamon, and coffee, and they also sell the things at the market, which is about 15km away.  In the last few years, the popularity of Wae Rebo has grown quite a bit as a great tourist destination to visit.  Depending on when you visit, you may be the only guest there, or at the busiest times there could possibly be up to 100 guests.  The locals are extremely friendly and welcoming and happy to show you their way of life in Wae Rebo Village.
