Tado Village Spider Web Rice Field, Flores Indonesia

If you are looking for a great place to experience the true Manggaraian way of life, than Tado Village is a perfect place to spend a day or two.  Tado Village is about 1hr to 1 hour 30 mins from Labuan Bajo and is nestled in a beautiful valley very close to one of the famous Spider Web Rice fields on the Island of Flores.  Tado is comprised of 12 different small villages and you can take time to experience some of the locals way of life that see how they make crafts, sarongs, mats, and even see a real caci dance, which is famously known in West Manggarai.

There are different options for tours and homestays.  Guests to Tado can stay in a traditional hut by yourself in privacy in the middle of the rice field or stay in one of many local homes with locals in the Village.  There are also trekking tours up the hill for about 45 mins to the top to get an incredible view of the spiderweb rice field (local name, LIngko) down below.  The Spider Rice Field is an example of how the village equally divide up the farming area from the past, can each family gets one area to farm rice for their families.  There are also tours where you can visit local artisans in the Village and watch how they make traditional sarongs and mats.  As well, if you want to view a real caci dance, which is the local traditional dance, that can be arranged in one of the tours as well.
When coming to Tado Village, don’t miss the chance to see a real Caci Dance.  This is an extremely unique dance with fighter and musicians and signifies many aspects of the local culture.  Local Guides can go into detail about how the caci dance resembles different aspects of life and afterwards you can spend time with the locals and enjoy a truly unique cultural experience.
Other areas around the Tado Village include, Cuci Wulang and Cuci Rami, which are both gorgeous waterfall and great place to swim.  Each of them requires about 30-45mins of hiking to get to the destination.   Lake Sanagong is also a beautiful sight to see that is about 30 mins drive from Tado village and offers peaceful views of a volcanic lake with a plethora of bird watching in the area.  Please contact us if you would like to schedule a stay or for different tour options and we can accommodate you.
