If you are looking for the perfect Shallow spot in Komodo National Park for snorkelling & diving, and seeing giant local reef manta rays, Manta Point (also known as Karang Makassar) is the place to go! Manta Point is locals in the relatively west to center of Komodo National park and is a place where tourists can get a chance swim with these amazing sea creatures in their natural habitat. The are incredible smart animals that actually have quite large brain capacities. The best two things about Manta Point, is you are almost always guaranteed to see at least one manta, and sometime more than even ten. As well, sometimes you can get lucky and be able to spend more that 30 minutes with them as they feed on Plankton and watch how they swim gracefully in the water. As well, the area is relatively shallow so, if you are not a scuba diver, that is ok, but is it great for snorkelling as well. For many people, getting a chance to swim this close to Manta rays is truly once in a lifetime experience. We highly recommend bringing your underwater camera so you can capture this amazing experience. Out of all of the great diving and snorkelling areas in Komodo National park, everyone agree that Manta Point is the best place with the best opportunity to see the amazing creatures in their natural habitat. From what most all of our guest say, swimming with Mantas is probably the most rememberable experience they have every had on a vacation. Manta rays swim with a graceful presence and even seem to enjoy giving a show for the snokelers and divers. Not to worry though, even though they are big animals, Manta Rays are not dangerous. They swim gracefully through the water and although you many want to reach out and touch them when they swim by, that is not allowed by any tour companies. This is because their bodies are covered by a mucus that is can be harmed if touched by a human hand We offer this spot on many of our Komodo Tour Packages.
