If you have wanted to visit more inland on the island of Flores Indonesia, that you probably have heard of the term Lingko or Spider Web Rice Field. These are very unique rice fields laid out in shape that looks like a massive spider web. This is a large of that is know about the Manggarai Culture of Flores. It is more of a traditional communal agriculture style that each family is allocated one part or segment the spider web rice field and as their family gets married it keeps splitting in two for most families. As with most way to inaugurate a new field, home, or engagement, or marriage, their is always some sort of animal sacrifice. As history tells it, most of these where passed on by the sacrifice of a buffalo. The design starts in the middle and rotates outward getting larger and larger as it expands in a giant circle. You could also say it heavily resembles a pie shape as much as a spider web shape. This is very unique to the Manggarai culture of the island of Flores, Indonesia. There are only a very few Spider Web Rice Fields left on the island. One of those is in Tado Village and the other larger and more popular ones are located in Cancar Village, which is about 30 minutes or 15 km west of the town of Ruteng. Cancar Village Spider Web Rice Field is the most photographs Spider Web Rice field on the island. I you can get there right before harvest time, you will see an a beautiful color of green and that almost doesn’t even seem real.
