Kelimutu Lake is a volcano close to the small town of Moni, located in central Flores Island in Indonesia. It consist of three lakes and is around 50km to the east of the town Ende, Indonesia. Kelimutu is so unique because the three lakes are different color and have been known to change colors. The Lakes periodically change color due to the changes in the oxidation-reduction of the fluid in each lake. The Oxidation-reduction status mainly depend on the balance of rainfall and volcanic gas input and it thought to be slightly mediated by the water system in the acutal volcano. It is truly a unique and wonderful sight to see for anyone who has time to make it to the Kelimutu Lakes.
