How to get to Flores?
Traveling to Flores Indonesia takes a bit of planning. There main airports to get to Flores are from Denpasar, Bali or Jarkata. From those two areas, you can fly into Labuan Bajo, which is the most western city on the island and is the gateway to Komodo National Park.   At the moment flights are not direct from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, that will most likely change in the near future.  There are also boat tours from Bali that ussually take about 3 or 4 days.  There are also a few times through out the week that ferries run from a few different islands, but just realized the ferries are extremely crowed and not for the tourist that prefers comfort.

Where to start in Flores?
We recommend spending a few days to visit Komodo National Park for sure.  Take a day to see the Komodo dragons on either Rinca or Komodo Island.  In the same day you can also climb up to the top of Padar Island for a stunning view.  It is about a 45 hike to the top.  While you are staying in Labuan Bajo, we also highly recommend scuba diving or snorkeling the beautiful waters of Komodo National Park.  If you are not a certified scuba diver, you may want to take advantage of the opportunity and get certified.  It is typically about a 4-5 day process.  After you have spent about one week in Labuan Bajo, next it is time to venture inland and experience the amazing culture of the locals and visit some beautiful places, like Tado Village Spider Web Rice Field, Bena Traditional Village, Bajawa, Kelimutu Lakes or many other beautiful locations.

When to Dive Komodo?
Scuba Diving in the Komodo marine reserve is possible all year.  Typically the best diving conditions are from about March to October.  It truly depends on what you want to see.  Many Scuba Divers choose to come around January and February during the rainy season because you have a better chance or seeing manta rays.

How to travel around Flores?

The further you travel to the eastern part of Indonesia, the more difficult it will be to find public transportation on the island.  Most tourists either rent a private car or a scooters.  The roads are very mountainous and full of curves.  For the experienced motorcycle or scooter driver, it is a spectacular place to ride, but be prepared for the random rain shower that can happen any time while at higher elevation in the mountains.  You can also take public transportation, (which are actually vans), just be aware that these can be extremely uncomfortable for some tourist and can also be jammed packed full of people.
